Venice - Nov 18-20 2023

Had lunch in Rome airport. The good pizza places were slow and long so ended up eating at Eataly just like Valley Fair mall!!!! That was very strange to spend a lot of money and see the exact same place. I guess Eataly is maybe under appreciated by locals in San Jose. Maybe (I am not sure how popular it is)

Off to Venice now to Marco Polo airport VCE on Italian Airlines (ITA) 52 mins flight. Starting about an hour late

Booked a private taxi from VCE to our Hotel directly. For reference this was 140€. It was an amazing trip over the water

Checked into hotel Antico Doge. Though it was right at the spot we got down, it was difficult to find :). Once we checked in we walked around the town including a quick walk to Rialto Bridge.

We came for pizza this time checking on Yelp and Google Maps for recommendation. We choose Rossopomodoro. Trying some white cheese pizza, fried pizza, Sautéed Aubergine and some gnocchi. The place is very busy and we took that as a good sign. We sat next to Tavolo Del Camino (Table by the fireplace). This spot had a momento next to it for an artist named Peggy Guggenheim who sat here in 1949 planning her famous collection of cubist surrealist and expressionist paintings and sculptures. The exhibition opened in 1951 on the Grand Canal

The next day early wake up for Doge’s Palace wasn’t easy as everyone was still jet lagged. The palace was large and walking all around made the kids tired. We were quite pleased with the collection there and bought some books. After that we had amazing lunch at Ristorante La Piazza, where a Ravioli we ate was a hit. Finally we went around the square, stopped by Florian Cafe and then stood in line and went inside St Marks Basilica. The church tour was quick and simple where we saw a beautiful gold screen (?) and the original 2nd century horses

Finally, we came back and the kids slept and Soumya and I stepped out to have a good baked eggplant and some drinks.
